Conley Art Gallery presents the Annual Student Exhibition

This Thursday, Dec. 11, 5:00-8:00 p.m., the Fresno State Conley Art Gallery presents the Annual Student Exhibition. It features a large variety of artworks submitted by Fresno State students and juried by community art leaders George Blair and Diadre Metlzler. This special exhibition has been coordinated by students enrolled in the Gallery Management class under instructor Carol Hartman. The student curators are Kristen Kennedy and Corrine Attenhofer.

Excellence is reflected in the variety of mediums presented for display, including painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, printmaking, photography, video, animation, performance, bronze, and ceramics. The Department has approximately 600 BA students and 40 MA students.

A recent consultation from Andrew W. Polk III, Professor of Art from University of Arizona, in preparation for Fresno State's application for membership in the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), resulted in his statement, ... "I do not believe I have ever visited a program with more dedication to its students, as demonstrated by faculty, staff, administrators, and overall institutional attitude, than what I observed at Fresno State and its Department of Art and Design. The positive impact is compounded by the excellence of the faculty, the richness of its curriculum, and its other resources available to students. Perhaps the best measure of educational success is to be found in the quality of student work..."

In light of the recent reductions of funding and classes being offered in the arts throughout our California educational system, the quality of artwork in this exhibition is found to be remarkable. The Fresno State faculty are to be commended for nurturing such talents in their students, many of whom have had limited previous opportunities to study the arts.

The President's Gallery, in Thomas Administration Building, will be hosting a reception for (faculty member) Edward Gillum's exhibition "To2Too" from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008.

The Dean's Gallery, in the Music Building, will be hosting a reception for
(student) Murleen Ray's "Remnants: Conversations with the Past" Honor's Exhibition of etchings and poetry from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008.

Parking is free in Parking Lot B.
There is no charge for admission.
