"The Secret of Mesrop Mashtots Erkatagir" by Serge Mouraviev

Prof. Mouraviev will discuss the nature of the final shapes of the 36 letters of the Armenian alphabet. The Armenian alphabet is a unique Indo-European alphabet. He will trace the development of the letters, and whether they are similar or not to other languages such as Greek and Aramaic.

Synopsis: The life of Komitas Vardapet – composer, ethnomusicologist, priest and father of modern Armenian classic music – is told through interviews with Armenian clergy, still photographs and the beautiful folk songs he worked so hard to preserve. The film also charts the catastrophic impact of the Armenian Genocide of Armenian Clergy.

Archival historian Ara Sarafian of London, England will present an illustrated talk on "Remembering Adana"
This year marks the 100th anniversary of one of the most horrific chapters in modern Armenian and Turkish history. The Adana massacres claimed the life of more than 20,000 Armenians, resulting in massive material losses. Sarafian will present the history of the events and show images of Adana from before and after the 1909 events.
