In this session of the Deans' Series, join "Jim Learner" (aka Dean McDonald) as he skillfully interviews and delves into the secrets, confessions, and insights of five panelists regarding their leadership techniques and professional development.

Karen Carey
Karen Carey has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from San Diego State, a master’s degree in school psychology from UNLV and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. She currently serves as Dean of the Division of Graduate Studies.
Berta Gonzalez
For over 30 years, Dr. González taught in elementary and secondary grades, university level students, professionals and administrators in the United States and in numerous countries abroad. Her current position is Associate Vice President for the Division of Continuing and Global Education.
Ellen Junn
Ellen Junn earned her B.S. from the University of Michigan and Ph.D. from Princeton University in cognitive and developmental psychology and comes to Fresno after teaching at Indiana University, CSU San Bernardino and CSU Fullerton over the past 24 years. She currently serves as Associate Provost.
Peter McDonald
Peter McDonald, Dean of Library Services at Fresno State, began his library career at the New York Public Library in 1987. Since then he has worked at Cornell University, and more recently at Syracuse University. He arrived in Fresno to take up his current position on February 1, 2007.
Dennis Nef
Dr. Nef is an agricultural economist with an interest in food, agriculture, and resource policy and the use of technology in education and project based learning. He currently serves as Associate Vice President and Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
Dave Tyckoson
Dave is the Associate Dean of the Henry Madden Library, California State University - Fresno. Prior to moving to California, he held positions at SUNY-Albany, Iowa State University, and Miami (Ohio) University. He has an undergraduate degree in Physics and a Master’s degree in Library Science, both from the University of Illinois.

John Ross presents his latest book, "El Monstruo" ("The Monster") - taming the most contaminated, corrupt, crime-ridden, and chaotic urban entity in the Americas.
Corazon del Tiempo (2008) THIS IS THE FIRST SHOWING IN THE U.S.A. (ASIDE FROM SUNDANCE) & the first feature-length movie set in a Zapatista village in Chiapas. Director Alberto Cortes. It is a time of revolution and Sonia’s rebellious heart causes further commotion in their village. Recently bethrothed to a young community leader, Miguel, she is walking along a path in the Selva Lacandona one day when she locks eyes with those of Julio, a rebel fighter; their passion puts the security of her community and the Zapatista rebels in jeopardy. In a world where everything changes, in a land if free Indians who have decided to take a stand and resist, Sonia takes on the struggles of love in the heart of time. 90 min.

2010 will mark the bicentennial of Mexico's war of liberation from Spain and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. As the country plunges into the most severe economic collapse since the Great Depression, President Felipe Calderon will spend billions of pesos to celebrate the twin centennials, a mistake dictator Porfirio Diaz made on the eve of the Mexican Revolution. As it was a hundred years ago, social discontent is at fever pitch and some are anticipating violent uprising in 2010.

Described by the Toronto Star as "a major talent," Mr. Nance has performed on Broadway and sung concerts and leading roles with opera companies and orchestras in such venues as the New York City Opera, Glimmerglass, London, Toronto, Chicago, Santa Fe, Vancouver, and the Jazz Festivals of Ottowa and Toronto.
Marcus made his feature film debut as the singing accountant in the Mel Brooks movie The Producers and recently began hosting the cabaret series Divos and Divas with Marcus Nance at Statler's in Toronto.

Fresh (2009) Celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
