"The Armenian Folk Epic of David of Sasun"

Wednesday, November 5, 2008
7:30 PM

Daredevils of Sasun occupies a unique place in world epic heritage. It was created in the medieval period. But already in this fact one can see a contradiction. The large epic monuments were created at the beginning of their national history (as "Odysseus" and "Iliad", "Gilgamesh", Indian epic poems, etc.). Armenian history and culture take their origin in the dark depths of human history. In the IX-XI centuries, the Armenians were a people with rich and difficult history, but it was just then that the Armenian epic Daredevils of Sasun was born.
Dr. Yeghiazaryan will discuss the significance of Daredevils of Sasun to both Armenian culture and world culture.
