“STORIES OF OUR LIVES” WITH KATHERINE PATERSON

The public is invited to a lecture by author Katherine Paterson entitled “The Stories of Our Lives,”

The event is sponsored by the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature.

Katherine Paterson has twice won the John Newbery Medal, given by the America Library Association for the year’s most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, for Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved. Both novels have been made into movies. Paterson’s other titles include Bread and Roses, Too; The Same Stuff as Stars; The Great Gilly Hopkins; Come Sing, Jimmy Jo; Preacher’s Boy; and many more.

Paterson is also the recipient of the 2006 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children’s literature, given by the Swedish government, and the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen Award, chosen by the International Board on Books for Youth. Her web site is www.terabithia.com.
Katherine Paterson’s books will be available for sale and autographing after the lecture.

You are invited to hear Dr. Shaunee L. Wallace speak about her research

Dr. Wallace will be speaking to the COMM 168-01 (Communication in Organizations) class. Dr. Wallace earned her Ph.D. at Howard University and currently is the chair of the Communication Department at The College of New Rochelle in Harlem, NY. She has also worked as a public relations consultant since 1998; her clientele include Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Donald Trump, Essence Magazine, and the government of Hong Kong. Her areas of interest are Organizational Communication and Public Relations. She is especially interested in examining Latinas who work in public relations firms.

Dr. Bournoutian is Professor of East European and Middle Eastern Studies at Iona, College, New York, and is the author or translator of numerous books.

Dr. Bournoutian will discuss the role of the Armenian Church in South Asia, with special emphasis on the Armenian communities of India, China, and Singapore. The lecture will be illustrated with slides taken by Dr.
Bournoutian on his many visits to those communities.
