Legislative Intern Scholar Program

The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute is currently accepting applications for its prestigious Intern Scholar Program for the Fall 2008 Semester. The program will place Fresno State students in the office of either a Federal or State Legislative Member in the Fresno/Clovis area. Interns are awarded a $1,000 scholarship for their participation.

The program is open to all majors. The deadline to apply for the Fall 2008 Program is Friday, September 5th, 2008. Because the first two weeks of school are so busy, our goal is to begin recruiting students for the program before they leave for the summer.

Requirements: Students must have at least 60 completed units and an overall 3.0 GPA.

Symphonic Band
Come join the Fresno State Symphonic Band and the Opera Workshop for a trip back in time one hundred years! This unique performance is a historical recreation of a "concert in the park," back in the days of John Philip Sousa, George M. Cohan, Scott Joplin, and barber-shop quartets. The first half of the concert will feature the Symphonic Band performing period music and being joined by guest soloists. The second half of the evening will showcase the Opera workshop, in a performance of scenes from early 20th century American musical theatre. Look for appearances by rag-time musicians, barber shop quartets, and even street-corner "newsies" and carnival barkers to make your time travel experience complete!

When and why did the United States policy of containment of Iran come about? How did it evolve? Where is it going?

Much has been said about the US policy of dual containment, particularly as it pertains to Iraq. However, there has been little in-depth analysis of this policy when it comes to Iran. Sasan Fayazmanesh explores this often neglected subject by examining the history of this policy. . . . This topical read synthesizes a range of primary sources, including firsthand reports, newspaper articles, and electronic media, and presents a coherent analysis of the ebbs and flows in US thinking on Iran and Iraq.
